Autumn 2025
Autumn Week 15... Our final school week of 2025!
There has been so many fun things but throughout it all we have never stopped learning. What a busy festive week it has been..
From super reading with our ditties, great shape work in maths, recapping about nocturnal animals in science, festive arts and crafts, music and great thinking for PSHE and RE as we have learnt more about the Nativity story. We had a lovely last session in the forest acting out the nativity story, finding the characters and making festive robins. We have had parties, Carols around the Tree and we even had a special visitor! Lucky us.
What a lovely last week of the term...now have lots of festive fun with your families, Alnwick Castle Class and come back in 2026 rested and raring to continue our learning adventures!
Autumn Week 13... Little Robin Red Vest
Our topic of learning about 'People Who Help Us' has developed nicely into our core story of the week 'Little Robin Red Vest'. It has been a wonderful way to remind ourselves about doing kind things for others and not just thinking about ourselves.
We have continued to read our 'Ditties' and really practise our Set 1 sounds as we read and write using them. We will continue to send them home so you can get really familiar and fluent with them.
In maths we have been doing some deep thinking about the number 5 and seeing if we can make it in different ways. We have begun to learn our number bonds to 5 so we can think about having automaticity by learning about the number friends 5+0, 4+1 and 3+2. We have also been looking at how to make number within 5 too.
As always we have loved taking our learning into the forest too. This week we took our work on number friends out there, made some amazing forest robins and even had a hot chocolate treat whilst practicing our singing.
We finished off the week with lots of thinking about people who help us, working on fine motor skills plus singing and practicing for our play.
We have really got into our learning about 'People Who Help Us' which has been a nice link from Remembrance Day and Children in Need.
We have very excitedly began reading our 'Ditties' and working with our Inky partner to do so. These will be coming coming home at the end of the week so we can 'wow' you with reading them. We have also been doing lots of super number work with 'more' and 'less'.
As always we have loved taking our learning into the forest too. This week there were number hunts. making feeders by threading 5 oranges and lots of opportunities to develop our learning and collaborative play.
We finished off the week with lots of thinking about people who help us, working on fine motor skills plus singing and practicing for our play.
We have worked on the sounds 'ch', 'qu' and 'x'. These digraphs are really starting to catch us out so any extra practise to keep playing games to spot the difference and say each of them would be a great help.
In maths it is all about shapes - circles and triangles. So we have been doing shape dances, shape making, sorting and picture creating whilst we discuss, identify and think about their features. We then looked at positional language and had to say if the Teddy was beside, above or below the table.
We also had a visit for a special 'Open the Book' assembly from Ignite, got our Reading Buddies back for the term and had a visit to the Book Fair!
It has been lovely to return the new half term and hear about everyone's half terms and what an exciting week we have had...
A new topic to begin = 'Superheroes - People Who Help Us' and a new Post Office role play, Fireworks fun in so many ways, forest firework fun, learning new sounds 'w', 'th' and 'x', working on our more than and less than numbers, Science experimenting with changing materials including ice and gloop and finishing the week with our first Beach School Day!
We read the story ‘Stick Man’ and found our own stick and used natural materials to make our own stick man. We used these to retell the story.
Using the part of the story when Stick man ends up in a nest, we talked about nests and the different types of nests birds might use. We then made our own nests.
Throughout the day we talked about seasons and the natural world around us and worked together as a team.
We enjoyed our lunch in the Hindmarsh hall and then went back to the beach to build a special place for Stick man in the sand. On the way back to school we enjoyed some time in the park.
All the children have been brilliant and we have all thoroughly enjoyed our day!
Thanks again to our parent helpers.
