Religious Education Intent Statement

Religious Education Intent Statement

The intention of the Religious Education curriculum at Hipsburn Primary School is to prepare children to be educated citizens and develop an interest in learning about and from a variety of religions, so that they can understand, appreciate and value  the world around them. Our school curriculum is planned to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions, explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions and develop a more rigorous understanding of the numerous religious traditions, beliefs and practices that are followed in our multi-cultural society. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We want them to know how religious education promotes discernment and enables pupils to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and life-long learning.  At Hipsburn Primary School we want children to enjoy their learning and to show respect towards other childrens beliefs and ideas. To support this, we use the agreed Northumberland Religious Education syllabus as the basis for our curriculum.

Our intent through Religious Education is to support:

SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development)

British Values

Mindfulness

Anti-radicalisation

Critical thinking and growth mindset

Personal Development
