Spring 2026

Roots and Shoots at Alnwick Gardens

Year 4 had an excellent time at Alnwick Gardens on Tuesday! They prepared their flower bed for planting, planted a range of seeds, taste tested a range of fruits and had fun playing on the swings inside the main garden. There was even time for a quick tour of the poison garden! Year 4 can't wait to go back to Alnwick Gardens next month to start planting up their flower bed.

Geography research

We have been researching the changes that have taken place in Alnmouth over time. The children used maps and photos to identify how our local area has changed.

British Science week
Year 4 had lots of fun during British Science week. We built and tested helicopters and paper airplanes. We also drew life size skeletons and created moving muscle models.

Beach School - Friday 6th February

It might have been wet but Year 4 still had a great time at Beach School! They participated in lots of activities linked to the topic Ancient Egypt. They created their own settlements, built pyramids and made scarab beetles out of clay.

Northern Gas Workshop

Year 4 participated in a workshop led by Northern gas. They created their own gas networks and tested them. They also learned about climate change and conserving resources.

Mummifying Tomatoes

Year 4 have been learning about embalming as part of our Ancient Egypt topic. The class followed instructions to embalm tomatoes. It got quite messy but the children had lots of fun!

Microbits
In DT, Year 4 have programmed microbits to make their own smart watches. They followed a design brief successfully and got creative with all the different microbit functions.

Eco Project
Year 4 worked with teachers from Duchess Highschool and a gardener from Alnwick Gardens to create eco-art. The children learned all about plants and how to plant them. They also created nature themed art on sewing machines, created natural dyes and used flower pressing techniques.
