Sports Day - July 2025
'I loved that the whole day was sports day!'
'My favourite was the water race, the best part was that everyone had fun on sports day'
'I loved watching everyone take part'
Sports Day 2025 was a huge success, made even better by the lovely weather on our side! The morning kicked off with a carousel of athletics events, where children competed in activities such as long jump, long-distance running, javelin, and target throwing. Pupils showed great skill and enthusiasm, and those placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd were proudly awarded certificates for their efforts.
Later in the morning, classes continued the Sports Day celebrations by making medals, designing motivational posters, and completing themed crosswords. These activities helped reinforce important values such as perseverance, teamwork, and resilience.
The afternoon was all about fun, teamwork, and community spirit. It was wonderful to welcome so many parents who came along to cheer on the children. Pupils participated in a variety of exciting races including the relay, sprint, egg-and-spoon (with obstacle twists for KS2), sack race, a KS2 water race and a skipping race! The SSOC did a brilliant job at setting up the races. Every child tried their best, showed fantastic sportsmanship, and supported each other throughout the day.
A big thank you to Mrs Smith for carefully tallying the race results and a huge congratulations to East Crew for taking the overall win!

Children in preschool, Alnwick, Ford and Etal class all took part and had lots of fun getting in the Christmas spirit with a festive run. Take a look at our pictures from the dash-
Children in Need November 2024- Bearpee Challenge
On Friday the 15th of November, the whole school took part in a bear-pee challenge for children in need. The challenge involved children completing as many burpees as they could in a set time (the amount of time depended on each year group). Each class really enjoyed the challenge, working hard to perfect their form and complete as many burpees as possible in the given time! In each class, children were selected who demonstrated excellent perseverance, determination or super form and received a jewel prize! In KS2, we discussed why we were doing this for children in need and thought about the things in life that we have but often take for granted. A great effort for a super cause!
PE Enrich Showcase Event with NUF and St James Tour
We have so many super sports at Hipsburn with some great achievements throughout the year and today was another one of those great opportunities that we got to embrace. We have been working closely with NUF and were lucky to be invited to come to their base ‘Nucastle’ and take part in a special event hosted by Enrich Learning.
We had a morning filled with activities to develop our team work, communication and problem solving skills. We got to learn all about orienteering and had lots of fun working on our team work skills as we did so.
Then we got the absolute privilege to have a guided tour around St James’. It was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed celebrating sport.
Santa Dash - Thursday 8th Dec
Dashing through the Snow! Well done to all the classes who made the Santa Dash in between snow flurries on Thursday 8th December. Everyone looked fantastic and festive!
Football Focus
We were delighted to give some lucky children and their families free tickets to see Newcastle United Women ( The Lady Magpies) play at St James' Park on Saturday 27th November against Barnsley Women. The Magpies won 2-1. Farrah, who was one of the lucky children there said, 'it was really fun! I liked all the footwork and they never gave up.'
