Bailiffgate Museum Trip Tuesday 2nd October – Alnwick Castle Castle

What a lovely first school trip we had for Alnwick Castle Class! It was off for adventures at the Bailiffgate Museum. First we took part in a Museum workshop. We explored each of the areas, finding out what a museum actually is and learning and investigating some of the artefacts in each of the different historic times. The special artefacts were fascinating. We finished with a mouse treasure hunt.

Our next session was up in the Ladybird exhibition and we got dressed in an amazing range of character costumes. We then took part in interactive stories, activities, a lady bird craft activity, a ladybird hunt exploring the creation of ladybird books and finished with a ladybird hunt.

The museum staff taught us so much and we 'wowed' them with super listening, manners and great thinking.

The Great Fire of London Dunstanburgh Class Beach School Day Monday 1st October

Dunstanburgh Castle class had a fabulous first beach day! We used all of our knowledge about the Great Fire of London to build what London looked like during 1666 in the sand. Each group included key features such as close houses, narrow streets, St Paul's Cathedral, Thomas Farriner's bakery and even a hole for Samuel Pepys to bury his cheese! Following this, we had a go at creating sparks using a flint and steel. Throughout the day, we discussed the season Autumn and collected different types of leaves that had fallen off the trees. After lunch, we collected materials that had been washed up on the beach. In groups we created museums to display and categorise our collected materials. We had an amazing day!

Alnwick Castle Class visits Alnwick Castle Summer 2023

A very apt final trip for Alnwick Castle Class to Alnwick Castle and what a wonderful adventure we had!

The day began with a fun bus journey and we arrived at the castle for a morning of Storytelling all about infamous Harry Hotspur.  We learnt about the most famous character to stay at the castle and had an interactive story that needed our help.  We then followed it up with a craft workshop and got to make our very own clay shield and homemade soap -  the fragrant smells were quite something!

We also enjoyed the historic environment of Artisan's Courtyard, where we tried out a range of medieval costumes, found out about medieval medicine and the armoury and some of us brave enough met the castle’s resident dragon in Dragon Quest!

Beamish Outdoor Museum Bamburgh and Etal Classes Summer 2 2023

Bamburgh and Etal classes had a brilliant trip to Beamish Outdoor Museum.

Bamburgh class were so excited to see lots of different types of transport from the past, we even got to ride on an old bus and tram. We also visited the Victorian school to find out what a Victorian classroom and lesson would have been like during Victorian times. We compared what was similar and different between school life today and in the past. Bamburgh class has never been so quiet!

Etal class took part in an Evacuees WW11 workshop to help them understand the effects of children being evacuated from the local urban communities and the effects of the Second World War on the rural community.
