Alnmouth Arts Festival 2026

Space for Shorebirds - 5th May 2026
This week in Assembly we were delighted to welcome Wildlife Rangers Tara and Katherine from the Space for Shorebirds project.  This was a wonderful way to teach the children about the local birds they see on Beach School and have been studying as part of their creative work for the Alnmouth Arts Festival,  developing their local wildlife knowledge.  It was fascinating to see, hear and learn how we can help protect our local wildlife as well as have a career in future in this area of work.

Whole School Arts Project
Every pupil, from Preschool to Year 6 has been working with local artist Helen Ellis to create a stunning collection of coastal birds, using natural and recycled materials. Inspired by the beauty of our local shoreline, the project highlights the importance of caring for our local beaches and wildlife.

The whole exhibition will be displayed at the Alnmouth Arts Festival (20th and 21st June) at the Hindmarsh Hall.  The wonderful creations, from delicate little terns to a life-sized cormorant will be displayed from each pupil. Each year group has brought a different species to life, including puffins, eider ducks, oystercatchers, curlews, kittiwakes and herons.

The school was also delighted to welcome Space for Shorebirds Northumberland, whose work helped inspire and inform the project.

A wonderful project to celebrate creativity, community, and our coastal environment.
