Spring 2024

Beach Day - Friday 22nd March
It was a busy Beach Day for Ford as we used it as an opportunity to reflect and build upon on our Science and Geography learning this term as well as our Whole Class Read too.

In Science we have been learning about the human bodies so we reinforced our knowledge as we accurately as possible recreated a human body with internal organs in the sand.  The features and creativity used by each team to portray this was wonderful.  Our next challenge of the morning was to work on our Geographical knowledge by representing our understanding of human and physical features of the world.  This was all completed with lots of cooperation in our teams.  We had the diversity of some groups producing the detail of the local geography of environment in our County to some groups working hard to produce the human and physical features of Ancient Egypt and another group made the whole world.

After lunch we discussed our class text - The Puffin Keeper by Michael Morpurgo.  Then created our own mini drama to act out a scene from the story before preforming it to the rest of the class.  Our final challenge of the day was to reflect upon our learning of the whole day and write some Beach Poetry.  We had metaphors, similes, personification and acrostic poems about the Body, the World and even the relentless wind and weather of the day.

It was wonderfully sunny with the wind set to test us but as always, we had a fantastic day of beach adventures.
Ford Ancient Egyptian Beach Day - Friday 16th Feb

What a wonderful way to end the half term with some fabulous outdoor learning on a beautiful beach day!

After a bit of nature spotting on the journey to the beach it was a morning to help reflect and reinforce our half term's learning on Ancient Egypt.  First we had to think carefully about the structure and engineering of the Pyramids including thoughts about why they were they built.  Then we built our own in teams.  This developed into deepening a better understand about life for Egyptian people by thinking, planning and building our own Egyptian homes.  There was lots of great discussion and explanation showing each teams creation.  Before lunch we concluded our Egyptian thinking by writing a poem or a dairy reflection and sharing it with the class.
After lunch we too our thinking about our class story 'Wild Robot' and in our teams we created our own 'mini drama' performance of a section of the story.  We made a really impressive show of our chosen parts as we performed them to the class using the sand dunes as our little amphitheatre. We finished the day by creating our own islands for the story for 'Wild Robot', there was so much imagination and creativity.

Well done, Ford Castle Class.

Design Technology
Ford class have been researching and designing smart wearables.  Each child has designed and created an eCharm to enable them to be seen in the dark.  They have used foam sheets and stickers to create their eCharm pouch and Microbit computer software to create a flashing light for the inside.
