Autumn Week 9 - Fun Fantastic Fireworks
It was so lovely to welcome everyone back and hear about everyone’s half terms - you have had some wonderful adventures! We have loved seeing some of your pictures on Tapestry of what you have been up to.
A new topic has begun….’Superheroes - People Who Help Us' so our end of term ‘Meg and Mog' home has changed into a new Post Office role play - this has caused lots of excitement with letter writing and post creating. We began our new core book ‘The Jolly Postman’ along with the new super seven and some Drawing Club adventures.
We have had fireworks fun in so many ways - wax resistant fireworks in the night sky in art, writing in sparkly writing and learning about the history of Bonfire Night, the story of Guy Fawkes and an afternoon of forest fun with a fireworks theme. Dancing like fire, moving like fireworks and even making our own forest sparklers!
We have been learning new sounds 'j', 'v' and 'y' and CVC words, working on our more than and less than numbers in maths as well as checking our 1:1 correspondence, Science experimenting with changing materials including ice and gloop and learning about some British Values in PSED and assemblies.
We also began our ‘Rainbow Challenges’ these are seven challenges, each linked to a different area of the curriculum that are set each week for us to completely in our independent ‘play to learn’ time. It has been really impressive everyone’s commitment to try and complete each one.
To bring the topic even more to life we are hoping to have some lovely visitors in this half term to tell us about their jobs.

We have a film trip coming up, a trip to the theatre, our own Nativity to perform and lots of festive fun at the end of term so what a great term we have ahead of us.
Autumn Week 2 - Super Settling
Wow - what an amazing first full week in Alnwick Castle Class. You have really impressed us with how many routines and systems you have picked up and learnt already. Ms Solomon couldn't believe how quickly we did the register this week.
In the morning you are learning to be independent and responsible with all your things by putting them away correctly and sign in using our mathematics register.
We have had fun recapping our literacy skills with story reading, nursery rhyme singing and playing games to recap our rhyming and listening for the initial sounds of words we hear. If you wanted to practise your nursery rhymes at home or you could even make some 'Silly Soup' by finding things that rhyme, for example 'Cat - Mat' and 'Dog - Log' this would be a great way to tune your ears in for beginning phonics next week!
In maths, we have worked in lots of number songs and you have been great at counting for us. The 'Elephants on a Spiders Web' was a big hit.
This week we begun forest school and acted so maturely when things didn't quite go to plan.
We have also begun some science, music and PSED which has given us lots of opportunities to talk about ourselves and learn about each other.
We talked about who is in our family and who lives in our house and created pictures using a colour key. Well done, Alnwick Castle Class - what a great first full week!
