Year 6 Leavers Disco 2019 - The Plough, Alnwick

For the second year, the Hipsburn Year Sixes went to the Plough in Alnwick for their leavers disco. We all arrived around 7, and left around ten. Along with several other schools in the area, we had a delicious meal and then danced the night away, partying to modern hits including ‘Old Town Road’ and ‘Baby Shark’. We all had a brilliant time and it was the perfect event to end our time in Year 6.

Year 6 Transition Beach Day
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic transition day at Beach School where they were able to meet other Y6 pupils who will be joining them in September. It was a fun-filled day of teamwork activities (in the glorious sun!) inspired by Kensuke's Kingdom. Children made dens with foraged materials, played teamwork games and then spent the afternoon on a treasure hunt that took us up through the sand dunes on a hike to find our lost treasure.
Year 6 Beach Day - Monday 24th June
Year 6 had a brilliant day at Alnmouth Beach learning all about the Marine Plastics Problem which has been a big focus at school this year tooWe took part in a litter pick and discussed how long different materials take to degrade and made beach art sculptures to highlight the issue. The afternoon was spent rock-pooling where we were lucky enough to find an array of different marine creatures!
Year 6 Victorian Day
Etal Class put all of their knowledge of Victorian Britain into practice, with a day in the life of a Victorian child. We experienced a typical school day for a Victorian child (for those lucky enough to attend school!), and took part in everything from exercise drills and writing practice to learning about the different punishments for any naughty children!
We concluded the day with a vote on how fair life was for children in Victorian Britain, and recognised, that although very harsh, how important the progress made in that era was for our lives to be what they are today.
Mega machines Workshop
Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic day last Thursday, taking part in a Mega Machine Workshop led by staff from the Newcastle Life Science Centre. It was a circus themed day and we learned all about cogs and pulleys; forces needed for balancing (with some brilliant circus skills!); and a giant domino effect to finish the day. Lots of fun was had by all!
