They say, “Our coronavirus hub is designed to help kids and adults alike navigate through these difficult times... From how to talk to your kids about coronavirus, useful resources on creative play ideas and helping children to stay connected to their friends and grandparents.”

A special visit...

On Tuesday morning, Alnwick Class joined Preschool to venture out into the carpark where we met some exciting visitors...a group of firefighters with their fire engine! We had a brilliant time learning all about the job that firefighters do, as people who help us.
After listening intently about how different parts of the fire engine are used, we got to explore inside the fire engine...We climbed up the steps (and learned how to climb back down which was quite a stretch for little legs!) and got to sit in the drivers seat- the firefighter told us about the different places he had been to put out fires and we thought about where we would go. We have been learning about the forest fires in Australia so lots of children said they would go there, but would have to catch a plane first! Next, we got to try on the helmets and talked about how the uniform, and the materials it is made from, help to keep the firefighters safe from fire. Then we all got to have a turn of aiming and using the hose which we found was very powerful.
We had a wonderful morning exploring how people in the emergency services help to keep us all safe. What super firefighter trainees!
Thank you to the RAF Boulmer Fire Crew for such a super morning.

Celebrating Chinese New Year
Alnwick Castle class and preschool have been learning about Chinese New Year with lots of exciting celebrations. During the morning, we worked in different groups to: make lanterns; make dragons; learn a dragon dance; and learn about the story of how each year is the year of one of the 12 animals that competed in the emperor's race.
In the afternoon everybody chose an animal from the race and created a mask to wear which we used in our very own animal race outside...there were lots of super speedy animals competing!
After a busy day of lots of activities, we settled down for our Chinese banquet...we tried lots of different foods including prawn crackers; egg fried rice; noodles; spring rolls; and a variety of Chinese sauces. We discussed the different tastes and what we liked or disliked about each food- well done for trying new things everyone!
A wonderful day learning about different cultures and their beliefs and celebrations in different parts of the world.

Space themed beach day!
Alnwick Castle Class had a wonderful day at beach school, enjoying some lovely winter sunshine. We got to show off the incredible knowledge we have learned about our space topic with lots of fun space themed activities: we designed rockets; acted out the Solar System; and created alien creatures! The day was full of lots of brilliant teamwork, discussion and creating.

Stay Safe Story-time
Today Lindisfarne and Alnwick Classes listened to the live-read of 'Stay Safe with Thomas'. We have talked about why it is important to stay safe near the railway. Children might like to share the ebook again at home with parents or siblings.
