The main line railway from London to Edinburgh stops at Alnmouth station and Alnwick is only a few miles away. Alnmouth is a very old village and when we study the history of our local area, we learn about the Bronze Age, Celts, Romans, Saxons and Vikings. Then we learn about the corn trade and the privateers who sailed in Alnmouth Bay. The river used to be much deeper and sailing ships were built here. We have collected lots of information in school and local historians have helped us a lot. Now there are yachts and a few small fishing boats in the estuary. If you want to know what Alnmouth is like now, have a look at some of our photos - or come and visit!
